Eco-friendly quick tips on detailing your car

How To Quickly Detail Your Car

If you are like most car owners, your car is like your child, your pride and joy. Most owners even go so far as naming their vehicle, not to mention the hundreds of dollars they may spend on accessories and electronic equipment. A great way to pamper your pride and joy is by mastering the art of auto detailing.

Detailing your car is like giving it a good washing times a thousand. When you go through this process, you are basically cleaning every single little crack and crevice to restore the vehicle to nearly like new condition. There are tons of products out there to aid you in the process of detailing, but if you learn a few tricks of the trade, all you need are a few great products and you are well on your way to maintaining your pride and joy.

For a good quick clean of your vinyl interior, Select a high quality interior cleaner In mere seconds upon application, All you have to do is apply your favorite cleaner with a sponge or sprayer, then rinse well and wipe off if necessary. Clean every other week and you will keep that new car interior look and smell.

To clean the seat upholstery or the carpet in you car, select a great Dry Foam Professional cleaner from your favorite auto supply store. A good cleaner works amazingly fast and is extremely safe and effective on your important interior surfaces. The dry foam action is great for eliminating tough dirt and grim in just moments once it is applied. Use it with a damp microfiber which provides excellent results and is safe for your interior. Keep a small hard bristle brush in the trunk of your car and brush out any dirt from the carpet. This eliminates pulling out the vacuum and saves electric and also gives the carpet a freshly cleaned appearance.

Once you have finished cleaning the interior surfaces of your car, you will want to be sure and protect them from any potential spills or stains in the future. Your favorite fabric Protector works wonders to protect your fabric surfaces from grease, stains, water and dirt. This is a must for the car enthusiast to maintain the beauty of their car after detailing. Some of the prominent fabirc protectors are found in your auto supply store as well.

For the exterior select a high quality waterless wash. (Optimum no rinse) Waterless wash your vehicle once a week to prevent a large buildup of dirt and road grime. Make sure you wash the exterior windows as well.

As always please feel free to consult with the staff at Gia's Mobile Detailing for all of your car care needs or questions.

Polishing aluminum wheels

How to Polish Aluminum Wheels:

Aluminum wheels can benefit from a good polishing as needed to restore their shine and enhance the overall appearance of your car.

Before polishing, be sure to thoroughly clean the tires well. Remove all loose debris and grime from your wheels to prep them for polishing. Use a soft bristle brush or microfiber to remove the grime as well.

Failing to clean thoroughly could result in unexpected scratches on your aluminum wheels. Once they are good and clean, be sure to dry thoroughly before proceeding with the polish. A wet surface will interfere with application of the aluminum polish.

Polishes for aluminum wheels are available in liquids and pastes, but liquid polishes are generally preferred as they tend to outperform the pastes. Liquid simply gives better results. Select a product that is made especially for aluminum wheels if possible.

Use a wax pad or dry towel to apply the polish to your aluminum wheels. Using ample pressure, work hard to rub in a circular motion until the area is completely covered.

Some good detail suppliers sell a wheel polishing kit that attaches to a low speed drill which may be a great investment as an alternative to doing by hand.

Be sure to apply the aluminum polish evenly to your wheel, rubbing it in with a smooth and consistent stroke. Try to polish the aluminum in a repetitive direction. You should see the tarnish coming off on your cloth, evidence that you are making progress towards shiny, clean wheels.

Allow the aluminum polish to dry completely on your wheels before removing it with a clean, dry towel. The removal process involves buffing those aluminum wheels with a soft, clean cloth. Repeat process as needed to enhance the shine.

You should be able to see the beautiful polished aluminum shining through as you work through this stage of the job.

One wheel down, only three to go!

Anyone who really prides himself on the appearance of his car will want to take that little extra time to really work on polishing those wheels. It is a small thing, often neglected, that will set your car's appearance apart from the rest.

Please feel free to contact us at Gia's Mobile Detailing for any of your car care needs.

Detail your tires on your vehicle

How to Clean Your Tires

Car tires require a little special care when it comes time to give them a good cleaning. They are often neglected but a little extra time can really keep them in good shape and enhance the overall appearance of vehicle. Some tire prices today are reaching upwards of $250 per tire.

To begin, your car's tires should be the first step in exterior cleaning. The process of giving them a good cleaning can easily lead to dirt and water being splashed up onto the sides of your car. It certainly wouldn't make much sense to wash the car first and clean the tires last. Always clean your tires and rims first (various rim cleaning techniques will be covered in a seperate blog postings)

Tools required for tire cleaning are: a good tire cleaning agent that will not damage the surface of your tires, but is good at removing grease; a tire brush, soft dry cloths and a hose. You may prefer to use a mild, all-purpose cleaner for the car tires, but the products made for your tires generally do a better job. If using an all-purpose cleaner, be sure to make it a little more concentrated than usual so that it has a chance at removing the road-tar, grime and grease that builds up on tires. Remember to use products that are safe for the environment.

Grab the hose and work to spray off as much loose dirt from your tires as you can. Work to clean it out from the wheel wells and from the car's undercarriage. You may be surprised to see what shakes loose with that stream of water.

You may want to wear protective gloves to insure that the tire cleaner doesn't get on your skin. Start with one tire at a time, and use your tire brush, work diligently around all areas of the tires. Give them a good rinsing with the hose when you are satisfied that they are clean.

Remember to wash your tires on a grassy location or gravel driveway to prevent runoff into the local sewers or drains...remember lets be eco-friendly.

Final step, protect your tires from cracking and damage with a high-quality rubber dressing. It will give your tires a rich, dark appearance and be smooth to the touch. Cleaning and protecting your tires will help keep your car looking like new.

As always please feel free to contact the staff at Gia's Mobile detailing for any of your car care needs or questions you may have.

Some Interior auto detailing tips from Gia’s Mobile Detailing of Long Island, NY

Touch Up Your Interior for Spring

Spring is here and it's time to spiff up your interior. Even though most people are more likely to roll down their windows to let in a little fresh air and cool off, you still want your interior to smell nice and nothing does that like giving your car's interior the once over.

You keep your car looking sharp on the outside, it's time to rev up the interior. And you don't need much in the way of products or time to do it. First of all, vacuum the interior and get all the dirt you can out. This includes the corners and other small areas where dirt and debris can collect. Invest in a small firm brush so that you may occasionally brush out the interior without pulling out the vacuum for quick touch ups.

Next, use a good spot cleaner on the areas where spills or other things have happened. Once your spots and spills have been treated, all you need to do is use a good foamy cleaner. Foam is terrific for cleaning a car's interior because the dirt that is ground into the fibers is actually lifted to the surface where it can be vacuumed off once the foam is dry. Stoners sells a great foam carpet cleaner which can be purchased at any automotive store. Combine using it with a damp microfiber to remove any further dirt and grime.

And that's it, at this point your carpet and seats should be clean. If your dash is looking dingy, give it a wipe down with a product that will replenish the vinyl instead of dry it out. Avoid products with ammonia as an active cleaning ingredient for this reason.

Last but not least, finish up your car with a spritz of a good smell you enjoy the scent of and enjoy your "new" clean interior.

Of course the staff at Gia's Mobile detailing would be more than happy to discuss any questions you may have or visit our Car care F.A.Q section for more tips.
