Eco-claying your truck or car the eco-friendly way defined

How To Clay Bar Your Car Or Truck

Using a clay bar isn't as complicated as you think, but there is a definite technique to using a clay bar. It is worth taking the time to learn to use correctly as if you use it incorrectly, you will leave a great deal of marring and numerous scratches in on the surface of the paint.

You must prepare your car's surface before using a clay bar by thoroughly washing your car in a cool shaded area. It's ok to leave the car wet at this time for it will help in claying your car.

Do not wash or clay in direct sunlight.

Roll your clay between your palms until the warmth of your hands leaves it soft and pliable. Mold your clay into a roundish shape that fits comfortably in the palm your hand. In colder climates it may be necessary to use warm water to soften and shape the clay.

Clay lubricant can be plain water or your favorite waterless wash solution in a spray bottle or bucket.

Spray a little clay lubricant on a small area and run the clay back and forth with a light and constant pressure. If the lubricant begins to dry, spray a little more as you never want to rub the clay on a dry surface as it can leave scratches or marring on your paint.

Yes you can also use clay and its lubricant on the exterior windows as well to sometimes remove embedded water spots and other contaminents that may be present.

After you have clayed the area, rub your hand over the area to make sure you didn't miss any areas, you will feel a very distinct difference between areas you have clayed and areas you have not.

After claying each panel check your clay for particles and remove and re-knead as necessary.

Keep rubbing small areas around your car in this manner and when you are done, wipe any clay residue off with a soft towel and buff your finish to a nice luster. Once again, work in small areas/ one panel at a time and be patient, it's worth it.

When you've finished claying, wash your car with the waterless wash once again to remove any lubricant residue.

After eco-washing, go over your finish with a pre-wax cleaner and then compound, polish and seal with a good wax or sealant.

You will be amazed with the final results when this whole process is completed.

As always the staff at Gia's Mobile Detailing is available for any questions that you may have.

Auto detailing tips and tricks defined by Gia’s Detailing of Long Island

Auto Detailing Tips And Tricks

When done correctly, auto detailing can be raised to an art form, and when done incorrectly, it can be downright ugly.

There are a number of good tips and tricks that can save you time and aggravation when detailing your car. Whether you are detailing for a customer, yourself, or you are getting your car in tip-top shape for selling, these tips will make the job easier!

A good place to start first is washing the exterior with a quality waterless wash, spray each panel seperately, let sit and dwell awhile on the surface but do not let it completely dry, Start with the top of the car first and work your way down to the sides and then the front and rear. Wash from the bottom to the top and continue turning your microfiber to a clean portion. Rinse your micro-fiber out thorughout the washing process as needed in a clean bucket of water.

A high quality waterless wash (be sure to select the right product) will emulicfy and lift the dirt and grime from the surface of the car. Removing those contaminents with a microfiber will complete the wash process. You can always reapply the wash again to further touch-up any other areas missed.

One good tip is to always clean the driver's side carpets and mats first with a good professional carpet cleaner, It is the part of the car most potential buyers see first.

Take your mats out of the car and brush them down with a firm carpet brush to remove any further surface dirt before cleaning.

Rinse your mats thoroughly, cleaner on dirty mats only attracts more dirt if you don't rinse them. The current technology today is using a steam cleaner which refreshes and cleans the carpet with little or no chemicals used.

If a steam machine is not available use a good quality foam spray cleaner made for auto carpet and interiors.

Next clean the plastic areas of your dash and other areas with a good interior cleaner. Professional quality products work best as they don't evaporate too quickly leaving streaks and smears.

Clean the glass in your car's interior last, that way if any plastic cleaner happend to get on the glass, you can simply clean it off. Use a professional grade auto glass cleaner for superior cleaning and no streaking.

After cleaning the windows make sure you roll down each window and clean the top of the window which is often missed during the cleaning of the interior.

Next work on the exterior of your car. Wash the wheels with a professional degreaser and as a good tip, use a professional wheel dressing for maximum shine.

Another good tip that works in detailing darker colored cars is to lightly spray your car with liquid wax onto the wet surfaces of your car and dry as normal with a clean detailing cloth. This will leave an incredible shine. Have separate spray bottle of water and after waxing and touching up with wax mist lightly and wipe with a clean microfiber.

If you take a little time to clay your hood, roof and trunk before waxing or sealing, the smoothness and fine finish is worth the few minutes of extra effort.

Combine the clay and waterless wash to the hood and other areas that need to be clayed to further remove any other contaminents that may be present.

Just these few simple tips and tricks will keep your car looking sharp for years to come!

As always please feel free to contact the staff at Gia's Mobile Detailing for any of your car care needs or questions.
