How To Clay Bar Your Car Or Truck
Using a clay bar isn't as complicated as you think, but there is a definite technique to using a clay bar. It is worth taking the time to learn to use correctly as if you use it incorrectly, you will leave a great deal of marring and numerous scratches in on the surface of the paint.
You must prepare your car's surface before using a clay bar by thoroughly washing your car in a cool shaded area. It's ok to leave the car wet at this time for it will help in claying your car.
Do not wash or clay in direct sunlight.
Roll your clay between your palms until the warmth of your hands leaves it soft and pliable. Mold your clay into a roundish shape that fits comfortably in the palm your hand. In colder climates it may be necessary to use warm water to soften and shape the clay.
Clay lubricant can be plain water or your favorite waterless wash solution in a spray bottle or bucket.
Spray a little clay lubricant on a small area and run the clay back and forth with a light and constant pressure. If the lubricant begins to dry, spray a little more as you never want to rub the clay on a dry surface as it can leave scratches or marring on your paint.
Yes you can also use clay and its lubricant on the exterior windows as well to sometimes remove embedded water spots and other contaminents that may be present.
After you have clayed the area, rub your hand over the area to make sure you didn't miss any areas, you will feel a very distinct difference between areas you have clayed and areas you have not.
After claying each panel check your clay for particles and remove and re-knead as necessary.
Keep rubbing small areas around your car in this manner and when you are done, wipe any clay residue off with a soft towel and buff your finish to a nice luster. Once again, work in small areas/ one panel at a time and be patient, it's worth it.
When you've finished claying, wash your car with the waterless wash once again to remove any lubricant residue.
After eco-washing, go over your finish with a pre-wax cleaner and then compound, polish and seal with a good wax or sealant.
You will be amazed with the final results when this whole process is completed.
